Dan Wake is a meal made from cooked balls of dough made from bean flour and kuka powder (ground baobab leaves). In a bowl, mix the bean and kuka flour. In a separate bowl, dissolve the potash in a cup of warm water and slowly pour into the flour mix till its all incorporated. You should have a thick paste In a boiling pot of water, scoop some danwake into the pot with your hand and form little balls.

Break off small pieces about the size of a walnut and roll between your hands. It should be similar to a long tube with pointy ends. The dumplings will soak up a lot of broth as they cook, and the flour will thicken it slightly. Make your soup with a little extra liquid to ensure a soupy consistency.

Instructions to make Danwake (Flour Dumplings):
  1. Bring water to a boil,add flour,kuka and potash in a bowl,add water and stir to make a thick batter
  2. Start scooping the batter with a spoon or your hands into the boiled water to make small balls,cover and let cook for like 10 mins,do not move away from the pot as the water may spill when it boils
  3. Slice your veggies, add maggi and yaji,with oil or palm oil and serve,you can also serve with sauce,you can also slice boiled egg,and some people even squeeze small lemon. Waaaaaaawwwwww

The dumplings will soak up a lot of broth as they cook, and the flour will thicken it slightly. Make your soup with a little extra liquid to ensure a soupy consistency. Make smaller dumplings if you like. This is the first time I ever made homemade dumplings, fluffy, delicious and much healthier than ready made biscuit dough. I made them in a food processor IN SECONDS as following!
